A unease settled over me as I lay. The room was dark, besides for the dim glow from the streetlamp. My eyes fluttered open and there it remained, a silhouette at the foot of my bed. It was tall, hidden in shadow. I couldn't make out any features.

My heart beat against my ribs. I wanted to scream, but my voice failed me. It just waited there, its presence oppressive. Then, as quickly as it appeared, it was disappeared.

  • Today, I can't shake the memory. What could it have been? Did someone trespass my room? Or was it something more sinister?

  • Occasionally, they whisper my name, a chilling reminder that they are always present.
